DELAWARE 87ERS SELECT DARIN JOHNSON (12), TYSHAWN ABBOTT (38), DEVIN GILLIGAN (61) AND ISAIAH ZIERDEN (64) IN THE 2017 NBA G LEAGUE DRAFT
CAMDEN, NJ – OCTOBER 21, 2017 – The Delaware 87ers today selected guard Darin Johnson of California State University, Northridge with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2017 NBA G League Draft. The Sevens also selected Tyshawn Abbott (38), Devin Gilligan (61) and Isaiah Zierden (64).
In one season as a junior with Cal State Northridge (2016-17), Johnson (6-5, 190) averaged 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 30 minutes per game. He competed in all 30 games and made 29 starts with the Matadors, shooting 46 percent from the field, 37 percent from the three-point arc and 81 percent from the free throw line. His career-high 27 points came from a 9-of-16 shooting performance against Hawai’i.
Abbott (6-4, 210) was a four-year standout at Arizona State University (2007-11), averaging 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal in 31 minutes per game. He earned a first-team All-Pac-12 selection during his junior season. After going undrafted in the 2011 NBA Draft, he joined Kalev/Cramo of the Estonian League, leading his team to two league championships.
Gilligan (6-5, 220) averaged 20 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal in 33 minutes per game during his senior season at Southern New Hampshire University (2016-17), while shooting 45 percent from three-point range. He garnered several honors at the conclusion of his college career, including NABC Division II All-America Team, Northeast-10 Player of the Year and Northeast-10 All-First Team selections.
Isaiah Zierden (6-2, 175) redshirted his freshman year at Creighton University. He played four years for the Bluejays (2013-17) and shot over 40 percent from the three-point line during his college career.
The Sevens will hold Media Day on Monday, Oct. 23 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Delaware Children’s Museum. Sevens Training Camp then begins on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and runs through Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.
