FORT WAYNE, IN – The Delaware 87ers (23-21) fell in a competitive game to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (26-18) 116-109 on Saturday night. The Sevens are now three games back of the Mad Ants for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Delaware has six games remaining this year.

The Mad Ants charged out in front to the tune of a 12-point lead after one quarter. Fort Wayne’s 32 points in the first meant the 87ers had to play catchup the rest of the way. Delaware managed to win both the second and third quarters 37-32 and 25-21 and continued to make inroads as the game went along.

While the 87ers took the game down to the wire, Fort Wayne knocked down timely shots and hit just enough free throws to keep Delaware at bay by the end.

Though the Sevens only have six games to make up a three-game deficit, five of those tilts come at home. Tonight, the team had five players finish in double figures. Russ Smith (22), Nate Robinson (21), Aaron Harrison (20), Carlos Lopez (14) and Shane Edwards (12) all crossed the 10-point line.

Former UNC standout Tyler Hansbrough led the Mad Ants with a game-high 31 points. He paced five Fort Wayne players who scored in double figures. Four of the Mad Ants’ final six games are at home.

The Sevens’ next game comes against the Reno Bighorns on Wednesday, March 22. It’s the fifth time in the last six games that Delaware is playing a team for the first time. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. ET at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.
